The Ho Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Isaac Kodobissah,
have reacted to recent media reports that hundreds of dual desks were left at
the mercy of the weather for several months at the Assembly yard, saying that, the
Assembly only provided a place for the contractor to fix the desks which had
not been well sorted.
“It was
this process of assembling the furniture that some people failed to understand
that the contractors have to finish with the assembling process, apply
weevil-free chemical and final polishing; and subjecting them to inspection and
final handling over to the assembly for onward delivery.” Mr Kodobisah further
explained.
The M.C.E made the comment when he presented 1000
mono and dual desks to the Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution
to 33 basic schools in the Ho municipality on Friday.
Mr Isaac Kodobisah, said the package which is the
first consignment delivered to the assembly by MOFRA and Sons Construction
Limited, is in fulfillment of President Mills’ “Better Ghana Agenda”.
He also disclosed that, the second and third
consignments consisting of 800 and 1000 pieces will soon be handed over to the
assembly by Ossei Bossie Limited and Deltafa Limited respectively for onward
presentation to the schools.
Mr Kodobisah said Senior high schools within the
municipality have also received their allocation of classroom furniture
directly from the Ministry of Education. Adding that, aside the supply of
furniture, government was providing classroom blocks, free exercise books and
uniforms with an increase in the capitation grant towards attaining quality
education.
Deputy Director of Planning at the Municipal
Education Directorate Mr John Teku, on behalf of G.E.S, expressed gratitude to
government for the gesture, saying the desks would alleviate the furniture
plight facing the schools and urged the heads of beneficiary schools to make
good use of the furniture.
