Police Constable shot dead in Aflao

A Police operation to arrest suspected criminals at Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality has led to the killing of one the police men, Friday dawn.
Constable Wonder Kove, of the Form Police Unit (FPU) was reportedly shot by an unknown assailant, when he led his colleagues on a raid at Zorokpome, a suspected criminal den around the Aflao border.
Kove, believed to be in his late 20s was part of a police team deployed from the Police Headquarters in Accra to the area to clampdown on the increasing criminal activities there.
It is, however, unclear where the bullet came from as a police source claimed there was no exchange of fire during the operation.
Wonder’s junior brother, Promise Kove, told Volta Online, his senior brother’s sudden death is unbearable to him and his family, stating that, ‘he is the one taking care of us all… as I speak with you, and I’m even in his room in Accra.’
‘I have been staying with him, ever since he joined the Police Service about two years ago… he only left for the Aflao operation on Sunday and just this morning, one of his colleagues called to tell me that he is dead’ distraught Promise narrated.

Police busted 19 Suspects in connection with recent robberies in Ho

The Volta Regional Police Command on Monday conducted an identification parade for 19 suspected criminals who were arrested during a special Police operation within the Ho Municipality over the weekend.
According to the Regional Police Commander, Peter-King Yentumi Gyinae, the arrest of the suspects was based on police intelligence and public tip-offs for their involvement in recent robberies in the area.
However, none of the suspected criminals was identified at the parade, a situation DCOP Gyinae blamed on the uncooperative attitude of crime victims to participate in the exercise.
Notwithstanding that, the Police Commander said the suspects will be profiled with their fingerprint and pictures taken before granting them bail.

Robbers Attack Private Clinic in Ho

Four armed robbers last Wednesday night stormed the Foresight Clinic in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital taking away money and properties. According to an eyewitness and a victim, Wilson Ablormeti the incident which happened between 8:45pm and 9:00pm led to the loss of about GH1000.00, working tools and personal belonging of staff, including mobile phones and two laptops.
Wilson Ablormeti said he and the security man and one other person were assaulted by the masked robbers while his mobile phone and money was also collected.

He explained that at about 8:45 a man entered the clinic to visit his wife and daughter which the security man and other nurses clarified that there was no such admission.
The man was asked to call the wife and verify her location. The man replied that he had done that and the wife was still insisting that she was at foresight Clinic.
Just when the man was being persuaded to leave, four masked men charged into the clinic and joined the man. The gun wielding men requested for the mobile phones and monies on the about seven staff members at the facility.

Ho Municipality to get five new Police posts

In a bid to ensure the security and safety of residents, the Ho Municipal Assembly is to open five new police posts in the Municipality Mrs Fafa Adinyira, the Assembly Chief Executive has announced.
She said the additional police posts had become necessary in view of the increasing population and the relative high crime rate in the area.
Communities likely to benefit from the new police post, according to MCE are fast developing areas, such as Sokode, Adaklu, Matse, Akoefe and Hodzo , while the Ho Central Police Station would be given a facelift befitting a Municipal status.
Mrs Adinyira who was addressing a recent Town Hall meeting, said the Assembly was in talks with traditional authorities of beneficiary communities and called for support from all.
Security in the Volta regional capital has become a major concern following the increase in tertiary institutions and other business centres including financial institutions.
In recent times there have been reported cases homes and shops burglary, including robbing of fuel service stations, among others.
The forum was organised by Community Development Concerns, a civil society organization with support from the Assembly and the Netherlands Development Organization under the Social Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability project.

Madam Joycelyn Akorfa Ochlich, Executive Director, CDC, said the Town Hall meeting was geared towards ensuring good governance and her outfit would organise another by the end of the year.
